Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Calquence? Is Calquence safe for nursing mother and child? Does Calquence extracts into breast milk? Does Calquence has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Calquence influence milk supply or can Calquence decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About Calquence usage in lactation

No information is available on the clinical use of Calquence during breastfeeding. Because Calquence is over 97% bound to plasma proteins, and the half-life of the drug and metabolite are less than 7 hours, the amount in milk is likely to be low. However, the protein binding of the active metabolite is not known and the manufacturer recommends that breastfeeding be discontinued during Calquence therapy and for at least 2 weeks after the final dose.
