Is Topotecane Safe in Breastfeeding
Question
I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Topotecane? Is Topotecane safe for nursing mother and child? Does Topotecane extracts into breast milk? Does Topotecane has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Topotecane influence milk supply or can Topotecane decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Most sources consider breastfeeding to be contraindicated during maternal high-dose antineoplastic drug therapy. The manufacturer recommends that women not breastfeed during treatment with Topotecane and for 1 week after the last dose. Chemotherapy may adversely affect the normal microbiome and chemical makeup of breastmilk.[1] Women who receive chemotherapy during pregnancy are more likely to have difficulty nursing their infant.[2]
