Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use HA22? Is HA22 safe for nursing mother and child? Does HA22 extracts into breast milk? Does HA22 has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can HA22 influence milk supply or can HA22 decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About HA22 usage in lactation

No information is available on the clinical use of HA22 during breastfeeding. HA22 is a recombinant immunotoxin consisting of the Fv portion of the anti-CD22 antibody covalently fused to a 38 KDa fragment of Pseudomonas exotoxin-A (PE38) with potential anti-cancer activity. Because moxetumomab is a large protein molecule with a molecular weight of about 63,000, the amount in milk is likely to be very low and absorption is unlikely because it is probably destroyed in the infant's gastrointestinal tract. If HA22 is required by the mother, it is not a reason to discontinue breastfeeding. Until more data become available, HA22 should be used with caution during breastfeeding, especially while nursing a newborn or preterm infant.
