Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use CAT-8015 immunotoxin? Is CAT-8015 immunotoxin safe for nursing mother and child? Does CAT-8015 immunotoxin extracts into breast milk? Does CAT-8015 immunotoxin has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can CAT-8015 immunotoxin influence milk supply or can CAT-8015 immunotoxin decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About CAT-8015 immunotoxin usage in lactation

No information is available on the clinical use of CAT-8015 immunotoxin during breastfeeding. CAT-8015 immunotoxin is a recombinant immunotoxin consisting of the Fv portion of the anti-CD22 antibody covalently fused to a 38 KDa fragment of Pseudomonas exotoxin-A (PE38) with potential anti-cancer activity. Because moxetumomab is a large protein molecule with a molecular weight of about 63,000, the amount in milk is likely to be very low and absorption is unlikely because it is probably destroyed in the infant's gastrointestinal tract. If CAT-8015 immunotoxin is required by the mother, it is not a reason to discontinue breastfeeding. Until more data become available, CAT-8015 immunotoxin should be used with caution during breastfeeding, especially while nursing a newborn or preterm infant.
