I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use D.E.C. Sol? Is D.E.C. Sol safe for nursing mother and child? Does D.E.C. Sol extracts into breast milk? Does D.E.C. Sol has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can D.E.C. Sol influence milk supply or can D.E.C. Sol decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by Dr. Ru: About D.E.C. Sol usage in lactation
Used in the treatment of filaria, loa, mansonella and toxocara infection. Not longer recommended for onchocerciasis. Dosage for children is available. Periodic treatment strategies for entire populations have been undertaken (not recommended for newborns). Diethylcarbamazine enriched salt has been used. Check-up for untoward effects related to the drug itself which are usually mild and parasite killing dependent. Not commercially available in Spain.
