Root of shrub is used. It contains isoquinoline alkaloids: emetine, cephaeline, psychotrine... Effects: at lower dose: expectorant; at higher dose: emesis induction. Indication after Commission E of German Ministry of Health: none.(The use in breastfeeding women of dried extract at normalized dilutions is indicated to induce vomiting in acute intoxications and considered to be safe by WHO).
