I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Zolpidem? Is Zolpidem safe for nursing mother and child? Does Zolpidem extracts into breast milk? Does Zolpidem has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Zolpidem influence milk supply or can Zolpidem decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Imidazopyridine with benzodiazepine-like hypnotic effect.Used for insomnia. Five nursing mothers who took twice the usual dose excreted it into breast milk in a clinically non-significant amount. It is recommended to follow-up sedation or lack of appetite in the infant. The American Academy of Pediatrics states it is usually compatible with breastfeeding medication.

Because of the low levels of zolpidem in breastmilk and its short half-life, amounts ingested by the infant are small and would not be expected to cause any adverse effects in breastfed infants. Monitor infants for excess sedation, hypotonia, and respiratory depression.
