Answer by Dr. Ru: About Naganinum usage in lactation

Treatment of African Trypanosomiasis (T.Gambiense, Sleeping disease). It is used on early stages of disease: one weekly dose for one month. Adverse reactions are severe. No previous experience is available to make any recommendation for breastfeeding mothers. Nevertheless, it has a large molecular weight and a high protein binding capacity that would make its secretion into breast milk to be minimized. Assess every case for risk-benefit ratio, the health condition of the mother is usually precarious, side effects for both the mother and the child should be closely monitored.
