Is Amikacin Inhalation Solution Safe in Breastfeeding

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Amikacin Inhalation Solution? Is Amikacin Inhalation Solution safe for nursing mother and child? Does Amikacin Inhalation Solution extracts into breast milk? Does Amikacin Inhalation Solution has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Amikacin Inhalation Solution influence milk supply or can Amikacin Inhalation Solution decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Levels in the mother's milk are very low and in most instances undetectable. Like other aminoglycosides it is poorly absorbed in the intestine. Large doses may affect intestinal flora. Be aware of false negative bacterial cultures in the infant when the mother is on antibiotics. .

Amikacin Inhalation Solution is poorly excreted into breastmilk. Newborn infants apparently absorb small amounts of other aminoglycosides, but serum levels with typical three times daily dosages are far below those attained when treating newborn infections and systemic effects of Amikacin Inhalation Solution are unlikely. Older infants would be expected to absorb even less Amikacin Inhalation Solution. Because there is little variability in the milk Amikacin Inhalation Solution levels during multiple daily dose regimens, timing breastfeeding with respect to the dose is of little or no benefit in reducing infant exposure. Data are not available with single daily dose regimens. Monitor the infant for possible effects on the gastrointestinal flora, such as diarrhea, candidiasis (e.g., thrush, diaper rash) or rarely, blood in the stool indicating possible antibiotic-associated colitis.
