Unicellular fungus used to produce beer, bread and wine by fermentation. Contains amino acids, sugar, fat, Vitamin B and mineral salts. The Commission E of the German Ministry of Health recommends it for anorexia, asthenia and chronic acne. It seems to be a good nutritional supplement, however, proof on effectiveness as a galactagogue is lacking (Mennella 1993, Koletzko 2000). The best galactógogo is the maternal self-confidence along with a breastfeeding on demand using a correct technique for nursing (ABM 2011, Mannion 2012, Forinash 2012).
