Answer by Dr. Ru: About Cromolyn usage in lactation

It is administered by inhalation for the prevention of asthma and atopic rhinitis, orally for food allergies and topically on dermatologic and ophthalmologic conditions. At latest update relevant published data on excretion into breast milk were not found. There is a consensus among experts and scientific societies on considering Sodium Chromoglycate as compatible while breastfeeding (Nelson 2001, National Asthma Education 2004, Powrie 2006) because of a minimal absorption and low plasma levels appearing in the mother (AEMPS 2013, Davis 2015). The small dose used and low plasma absorption of most inhaled preparations (either buccal or nasal), topically apply as ophthalmologic or dermatologic preparations, make it unlikely any passage in a significant amount into breastmilk. WHO List of Essential Medicines 2002: compatible while breastfeeding.

Answer by DrLact: About Cromolyn usage in lactation

Although no published data exist on the use of cromolyn during lactation, maternal milk levels are likely to be very low and it is expected to be poorly absorbed from the infant's gastrointestinal tract. An expert panel considers use of cromolyn to be acceptable during breastfeeding.[1]
