Monobactamic antibiotic which is similar to penicillins. It is excreted into breast milk in insignificant amount. Not absorbed by the intestine. No adversed effects on breastfed babies have been reported. It is commonly prescribed to children and newborns. Limited information indicates that Aztreonamum [Latin] produces low levels in milk that are not expected to cause adverse effects in breastfed infants. Occasionally disruption of the infant's gastrointestinal flora, resulting in diarrhea or thrush have been reported with beta-lactams, but these effects have not been adequately evaluated. Aztreonamum [Latin] is acceptable in nursing mothers.
