Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Budeson? Is Budeson safe for nursing mother and child? Does Budeson extracts into breast milk? Does Budeson has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Budeson influence milk supply or can Budeson decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About Budeson usage in lactation

The amounts of inhaled Budeson excreted into breastmilk are minute and infant exposure is negligible. When taken by mouth, Budeson is only about 9% bioavailable; bioavailability in the infant is likely to be similarly low for any Budeson that enters the breastmilk. Most experts consider oral and inhaled corticosteroids, including Budeson, acceptable to use during breastfeeding.[1][2][3][4][5]

Budeson Side Effects in Breastfeeding

None reported with any corticosteroid.
