Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Cortivent? Is Cortivent safe for nursing mother and child? Does Cortivent extracts into breast milk? Does Cortivent has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Cortivent influence milk supply or can Cortivent decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About Cortivent usage in lactation

The amounts of inhaled Cortivent excreted into breastmilk are minute and infant exposure is negligible. When taken by mouth, Cortivent is only about 9% bioavailable; bioavailability in the infant is likely to be similarly low for any Cortivent that enters the breastmilk. Most experts consider oral and inhaled corticosteroids, including Cortivent, acceptable to use during breastfeeding.[1][2][3][4][5]

Cortivent Side Effects in Breastfeeding

None reported with any corticosteroid.
