Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Respules? Is Respules safe for nursing mother and child? Does Respules extracts into breast milk? Does Respules has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Respules influence milk supply or can Respules decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About Respules usage in lactation

The amounts of inhaled Respules excreted into breastmilk are minute and infant exposure is negligible. When taken by mouth, Respules is only about 9% bioavailable; bioavailability in the infant is likely to be similarly low for any Respules that enters the breastmilk. Most experts consider oral and inhaled corticosteroids, including Respules, acceptable to use during breastfeeding.[1][2][3][4][5]

Respules Side Effects in Breastfeeding
