Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Entocort EC? Is Entocort EC safe for nursing mother and child? Does Entocort EC extracts into breast milk? Does Entocort EC has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Entocort EC influence milk supply or can Entocort EC decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About Entocort EC usage in lactation

The amounts of inhaled Entocort EC excreted into breastmilk are minute and infant exposure is negligible. When taken by mouth, Entocort EC is only about 9% bioavailable; bioavailability in the infant is likely to be similarly low for any Entocort EC that enters the breastmilk. Most experts consider oral and inhaled corticosteroids, including Entocort EC, acceptable to use during breastfeeding.[1][2][3][4][5]

Entocort EC Side Effects in Breastfeeding

None reported with any corticosteroid.
