Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Budesonidum? Is Budesonidum safe for nursing mother and child? Does Budesonidum extracts into breast milk? Does Budesonidum has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Budesonidum influence milk supply or can Budesonidum decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About Budesonidum usage in lactation

The amounts of inhaled Budesonidum excreted into breastmilk are minute and infant exposure is negligible. When taken by mouth, Budesonidum is only about 9% bioavailable; bioavailability in the infant is likely to be similarly low for any Budesonidum that enters the breastmilk. Most experts consider oral and inhaled corticosteroids, including Budesonidum, acceptable to use during breastfeeding.[1][2][3][4][5]

Budesonidum Side Effects in Breastfeeding

None reported with any corticosteroid.
