Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Sodium Stibogluconate? Is Sodium Stibogluconate safe for nursing mother and child? Does Sodium Stibogluconate extracts into breast milk? Does Sodium Stibogluconate has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Sodium Stibogluconate influence milk supply or can Sodium Stibogluconate decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About Sodium Stibogluconate usage in lactation

Limited information indicates that maternal doses of sodium stibogluconate up to 1.4 grams daily produce low levels in milk and would not be expected to cause any adverse effects in breastfed infants,[1] especially if the infant is older than 2 months. However, if withholding nursing during therapy is elected, breastfeeding can be reinstituted 24 to 48 hours after the last dose.
